Toshiba Satellite L675-S7048 17.3-Inch LED Laptop - Fusion Finish in Helios Grey Reviews

    1. I just purchased this computer two days ago, so I may update this in the future. My previous laptop was a Dell Inspiron 15.6" core 2 duo. I wanted more RAM to do some non-pro video editing, and an update to one of the newer processors, and I wanted a 17.3" screen. In the end, I had to decide what was more important to me - a larger, good quality screen or a processor that was probably faster than I needed, but wouldn't be obsolete for a good while - i.e a 15.6" i5 or a 17.3" i3. I went with the latter, and I'm definitely not sorry so far. The picture quality of the screen on this computer is gorgeous - crisp, clear and sharp, and well-lit. The keyboard has nice big keys, though they're flat & I'd ideally prefer slightly raised, but I don't think I'll mind, since they're so large. I won't be using the number pad, but it's nice to have if you are someone who will use it. The speakers have so far surprised me - they're at least twice as good (and twice as loud) as the ones on my Dell. I wasn't expecting anything great as far as speakers, so it was a nice bonus. Connecting to my wi-fi involved putting in the password & hitting the Enter key, and I was on. Same with my wireless printer, quick and easy. I already notice a difference in the speed of FB flash games, etc., loading. I haven't put it through its paces yet with any photo or video editing. I will update if it *isn't* great, otherwise I'm assuming it'll be fine for my needs. Two things I'm not crazy about (only two!) - the mouse buttons are *hard* compared to the Dell. I'll get used to it and/or it'll loosen up with time, I guess. Also, when you are running on battery in the balanced mode, the screen dims from full brightness and I haven't found a way to bring it to full brightness without plugging it in. I don't like that. Otherwise, everything has worked smoothly so far. It's a nice machine with a great screen and speakers, at a great price (I bought it at a store & paid slightly less than Amazon's price, but the state sales tax sort of evened that out).

    2. I've been prowling for 1-2 months now ... both online and in traditional stores - BB, OfficeD and St (pretty easy to decipher which stores). I got this with the $100 off from this site. The sale price ended a day after that so that was good timing. So factoring in the free shipping, it was an excellent deal.Pros:1. Screen - sharp and bright2. Overall speed3. Price4. Reputable brand/ reliability5. Looks sharp (fusion finshi) but no fingerprintsUpdate:6. The hard drive has an impact sensor to prevent damage. Nice bonus feature!Cons:1. No HDMI2. No Intel WIMAX chip which is now becoming standard in Toshiba's A series.3. Wish the ports were at the back - not at the sides (seems to be the trend with all the brands now)I do prefer the island-style keys --- but the lack-of-it is not a CON since my wife does not prefer this.A computer is a computer ... so for me, it all boils down to the brand reputation, big screen, Core-i3 370M speed and price, price, price. The surface is glossy but it is NOT a fingerprint magnet. Not sure what they did with the finish ... but it is not tracking my fingerprints. The lack of backup CDs is not a problem. No one does this now. There is bloatware --- but that can be deleted. This is my 5th Toshiba laptop - and 7 laptop overall - counting what I have used for work.I nailed down my choices to HP, Dell, Toshiba and Asus (I have their router - excellent device!). I wanted to try HP but the price was an issue (and CR dinged them). Dell has a Black Friday sale going on for business customers - which would have matched this dollar for dollar / feature by feature - but the Vostro line has some issues (in our office at least). Dell model has a 2MP webcam! Aesthetically, it would have been a toss-up between Dell and Toshiba. Ultimately, reliability was the clincher for me.This is the perfect desktop replacement.Update:Been scouring around the internet and no one has still been able to match Amazon's price (well, my purchase price). Great job Amazon!Shipment Feedback:1. I bought this from Amazon. The shipment took longer than usual.I live just 2 hours south of Nashville - but the shipment bypassed me - and went to Montgomery - 7-8 hours away from Nashville - then 2 days later, backtracked to me. That seems terribly inefficient!2. The shipment box was woefully packed! When I opened it, there was hardly any packing material ---- only 1 rolled sheet of brown paper - on the bottom of the laptop box. The shipment box was also dented! I am now very worried about the laptop's internal parts!

    3. Very disappointed with this laptop and even more with Toshiba and they way they wanted to handle the repair on the unit. I have owned this laptop for less than 2 months and the hard drive has already failed. The Toshiba technitian and myself were easily able to verify that it was the hard hard drive that failed since it would not boot to desktop and the error message on boot up stated the hard drive had failed, safe mode, normal mode, last working configuration, nothing would work. Why do we need to send a laptop 2000 miles at the owners expense when Toshiba could simply send a hard drive to you for a few dollars.Since I live in the USVI, for some reason the computer world will not send any parts or computers here, it is cheaper for me to buy a new upgraded hard drive and win 7 pro oem then to send the laptop to a US address and then to Toshiba and back to me again. It was great while it worked, but lasting 6 weeks in unacceptable.

    4. Purchased this laptop from OfficeMax. Out of the box had issues with keys sticking and skipping letters on the keyboard. Before purchasing google "keyboard toshiba L675". You will find lots of people with the same issue. Looks like Toshiba doesn't have a fix. I was very disappointed. Had a Toshiba for 5 years, replaced it w/an HP that only lasted 2 years, so went back to Toshiba and was completely disappointed. It was impossible to type anything on.

    5. Toshibas are generally wonderful. The mouse on this laptop is very loud and noisy, and I'm having trouble getting used to the loud "click, click, click" as I work. Very annoying. The other problem is the volume control is not a physical slider located near the mouse as the last laptop had, but now the volume control is in the software and it's very inconvenient. This is my 5th laptop - they've all been Toshibas and I wouldn't consider another brand. My laptops rarely need repair, never crash and serve me well. Those 2 design issues are the only flaws in this model. Otherwise, I'm lovin' it.

    6. Excellent laptop, But, the keyboard skips letters typed and also inserts double letters of some typed. Typing is very frustrating.Toshiba hasn't fixed the problem in 6 months... they say they are on the verge of fixing it.There are a lot of people wishing they had never bought the computer... you may want to hold off until it is fixed or buy from a different brand. You can check out the forum on Toshiba's website to see what aggrivation they have caused their customers:[...]Think twice before buying...

    7. Before I purchased the Satellite L675 I did a bunch of research on laptops. I found out for the price, this is the best buy. I've had this for about a month now and have nothing to complain about. I am in school and my desktop fried out on me and I absolutely needed a computer and I've always wanted a laptop. The speed is very fast. The graphics are amazing. I can do what I need to do from school work to playing games. This is definitely a great buy for anyone wanting to use it for school and/or leisure.

    8. I was excited to buy this computer because of the price and the large screen. However, when it arrived, the keyboard stuck constantly. I am a copy writer and type relatively fast, so I wondered if it was just me. I had my two sons and husband try the keyboard. It was a bad keyboard for them, too.Amazon was wonderful! They paid for the shipping and gave me a full refund!

    9. I am not one to write reviews. This machine looks nice and has a nice screen. I got this as a replacement laptop for Christmas. It was slow out of the box. We had a hard drive failure at two weeks. I thought it would be a simple call to Toshiba for replacement computer or hard drive. The only option they gave was return for repair (2-4 weeks). I wasn't even allowed an option purchasing a new hard drive and then mailing the defunct drive in.In a nutshell, Toshiba's customer service is awful...the worst I have ever experienced....no support for their failed product. Do yourself a favor buy anything other than Toshiba!Thankfully because of Amazons holiday return policy, we were able to get a full credit return after the 30 days! I am back to a Dell Inspiron and consider my Toshiba experience just a bad dream!!

    10. This laptop was purchased for my parents to replace their dinosaur desktop. The large screen is perfect for their aging eyes. The keyboard is a little different than what I'm used to, with a smaller space bar to make room for other keys, but I'm sure they'll adapt. It's only been in use for a few weeks now, but I haven't heard of any issues. The only thing that is a bit irritating (and this may be true for all new laptops now) is that we had to purchase 4 blank DVD's to make a back up copy of the hard drive in the event the laptop crashes. For what these companies charge, it seems to me that they could supply a back up copy. As usual, purchasing from Amazon was a breeze.
