Dell XPS X15Z-7502ELS 15-Inch Laptop (Elemental Silver) Reviews

    1. On paper, this laptop couldn't be beat for under $1,000 - Intel i7, 6GB RAM, 1080p HDMI, etc. But... received my XPS 15z today and it has faint vertical lines accross the screen - making the image slightly blurry. Also, the WiFi adapter/connection is horribly slow; connects at 86Mbps, while my other computers connect above 240Mbps (Wireless N) each time.Contacted Dell support via online chat and after a few test they concluded that the LCD is bad. I Googled the issue and found several other reviews regarding this issue including several YouTube videos.THANKFULLY I purchased this through Amazon.com and their customer service/returns ROCK! They are sending me another unit for exchange, and with some luck the new unit will be much better.Fingers crossed.... I'll update this after receiving the replacement unit.===============================UPDATE=========================Second unit arrived - SAME EXACT SCREEN ISSUE! Dell Technical Support warned me that they may have received a "batch" of units with bad displays - so my replacement could have the same issue. I cannot believe the lack of quality control at Dell. This was my LAST DELL purchase - EVER. Back to Amazon.com...

    2. I just got this laptop. I mean like 4 hours ago. Thanks to cloud and everything. I was ready to use it for work within couple of hours. Love Mozy, Dropbox. This is the second time I changed my laptop in 30 days. Last one broke down on me within a months return period. (That was Acer not Dell). As programmer I don't need any high end laptops but recently I picked up video editing as one of my hobbies. That and I was really looking for high res screen to maximize productivity. On this laptop, I can open two files in 2 editors and work on them. Very useful during webdev. So the good parts first:Sleek looking1080POverall good feeling to keyboardNot too much bloatware (Acer was a nightmare cleaning up).But it is not perfect. The 2 biggest issue for me right now are:No separate home & end keys. As a programmer I need those keys. You can hold FN key and hit left or right arrow but I really wish they had regular home & end keys.NO SLOT FOR LOCK!!! Almost all laptops come with a slot for locking via standard laptop locks. This one doesn't. Since I like to leave my laptop in office overnight every once in a while. Now I won't be able to lock it down. This is a big issue for me. You won't think that Dell would be missing such a basic thing on their laptops. Well I guess I should have looked at the pictures more closely.I will update my review based on my experience.

    3. Pros:1080p - Need I say more?Fast Dual Core I7 processorThin - Almost as thin as MBPSleek design (complete ripoff of MBP)Future proof - 2x USB 3.0$800 cheaper than equivalent MBPCons:No Quad Core optionA little loudNo Blu-Ray option (can't make BR drives thin enough to fit)Overall:If you are thinking about buying a MacBook Pro and dual booting to Windows, consider this instead. You can get a top of the line 15Z with a solid state HD for less than the entry point for a MBP.

    4. After just two weeks of use I would have to say I am very pleased with this laptop. It's sleek, fast, lightweight and the screen is just about flawless. The touchpad as well as the backlit keyboard are responsive and easy to use. Battery life has been good and recharges fairly quickly. Wireless connection has been excellent. I was up and running within minutes of delivery. It was surprising that it came without any manual or even quickstart guide but turns out it wasn't needed. My only negative would be the anemic sound quality, but this isn't really a problem for me since I wasn't looking for a media machine as much as a good all-around work/personal computer. At this point I would definitely recommend this laptop.

    5. I found this laptop on Amazon for a good price and was excited to receive the unit. The reviews that I read online were generally favorable. Once I received the unit, I found the flaws and in trying to fix the problems, I uncovered the hornets nest of issues with it.The good... The price point for an i7 processor with the 6 gigs of Ram was a real selling point. The computer was snappy in performing tasks through native applications. The screen was vibrant and the unit was light weight. The bad... I soon noticed that the wireless connectivity was intermittent. The response to our wireless printer was incredibly slow. The default settings let it turn off the wireless card in the event that the machine sits idle for a period of time. In theory that sounded fine but in practicality it was a pain. So, I changed that setting hoping this would fix the problem. Not so lucky. I then did a search on the model with the phrase "wireless connection slow" and behold, 48 pages of discussion on the issue on Dell's own community website. This is a known issue on the laptop and it has gone on for 9 months with no resolution. The great.. Amazon! The ease at which to return (albeit at my cost) this unit is what keeps me a loyal Amazon customer. I simply went into my account and explained the issue and printed off the return labels and it will be on its way in the morning. I did not want to see if I could get Dell to string me out as they apparently have done with many users of this machine according to the comments from their own website. In short, I cannot recommend this unit in any way since the issue does not seem to be isolated to one laptop but seems to be a chronic issue with the design/configuration of the product. DO NOT BUY!

    6. Purchased for my wife to use with digital photography. Sleek slim design, boots quickly and overall is quiet (with the exception of the DVD player). The high resolution screen is beautiful and I would recommend this product to anyone looking to do design or digital photography on the go. The battery life is incredible, and it charges very quickly.
